The Mook
THE MOOK
The Mook was created by singer/songwriter and Phantom Redemption frontman Pat Sullivan. Sullivan
sought to record his newest, most introspective material to date, as well as to refine several
of his older songs. He assembled a group that, along with himself on guitar and all vocals, included
PR drummer Tom Eddy, and percussionist Bill Brockway. Rounding out the lineup were the (then) members
of the Sultans of Bing: Tim Askin on guitar, Dave Blackerby on bass, Tim Lane on drums, and Steve
Masek on keyboards. As the band recorded the majority of the instrumental tracks in the span of 12 hours,
the music took on a decidedly live feel, and the musicians stretched into improvisational episodes
that Sullivan sought and encouraged. Pat's incredible vocal range and stylings were on full display
in the resulting recordings, singing some of the most intriguing lyrics to be found in this or any genre. Several guest musicians completed the lineup, including ekoostik Hookah's
own Steve Sweney laying down guitar solos for two of the tracks. When all was said and done, the
Mook's Augustine was born from these sessions. One listen to this labor of love, and it is evident
why the album has become so dear to its fans. The Sultans of Bing still cover several of the Mook songs to this day.
